in the news

Last summer I read an article in the Chattanooga Times about an renovation. I contacted the staff writer, Holly Leber, saying that we'd love to share our experience sometime. That sometime can this week. Holly and a photographer, Jake, came out on Monday. It was fun to recount the renovation and be able to share our home. The article is in today's paper as well as online. http://timesfreepress.com/news/2012/jan/28/cleveland-couple-renovate-100-year-old-home/?entertainment

chalkboard art

During our renovation, I began compiling inspiration pictures from magazines and blogs. I am quite obsessed with design blogs. My current obsession is Pinterest. If you haven't discovered it yet, you need to ask yourself if you are ready to be sucked in. It. Is. Awesome. But back to the topic at hand...one kitchen I loved was designed by Urban Grace Designs. Check out my inspiration at http://blog.urbangrace.com/2010/the-makings-of-a-kitchen/. Not only was this inspiration for art but we also designed our open shelving after this kitchen.

I bought some scrap wood at Home Depot for $1.50. I put two coats of chalkboard paint on it. My first "art" was "His grace is sufficient for me." I love that verse and it is a daily reminder for me as a mom of small kiddos. But I also always loved the original words from my inspiration kitchen. So, last week I erased my first art and wrote "give thanks be joyful." I think this is a great reminder to us all.

Here is a picture of our open shelving so you can see the similarity and also a pic of my chalkboard art.

Master Bath

I just realized that I never posted pictures of our master bath. It wasn't fully finished when we moved in so I didn't post any pics then. Better late than never, right?

I LOVE this bath. In the original floorplan, this room was the master bedroom AND the master bath. Small was an understatement. We added the french doors off the bedroom. All the tile was purchased from a local store, The Flooring Center. We loved this vanity from Pottery Barn, but CHA-CHING! So after MUCH research online I found one similar here. It came with the Cararra Marble countertop. The tub was purchased online as well from efaucets.com. The sconces came from Restoration Hardware. The floors are original. I love having hardwood floors in the bathroom. It really warms it up. We also purchased our faucets and shower hardware online from either faucetsdirect.com or efaucets.com. Check out the shower fixtures--rainhead, body sprayers, handheld shower head, too. We have his and her closets on either side of the vanity. Our mirrors came from homedecorators.com. Hmmm.... online shopping has been our theme! I would love to replace those mirrors with something like this. Our ceiling color is Benjamin Moore's White Dove and the walls are Porter Paint Waterfall Blue. We still need a rug and some linen storage, but we'll get there one day.

Without further ado, here are some pictures. (I don't know why my pictures are always sideways. I'M SORRY! When Scott gets back, I'll have him try to fix it.)

Window Worries

Okay... sorry for the lame title, but that really does express what has been happening my mind these days. I have been so worried about my windows in the master bedroom. We originally were going to do plantation shutters (which will still will do in the bathroom) but CHA-CHING! We decided to go a different direction--one that is easier on the wallet.

I am in love with this fabric. Its called Cross Section in Charcoal. My original thought was to do roman shades in this fabric on the windows.

However, I really do love change which makes me wonder if it would be better to invest in something more neutral, something that would go with anything. Maybe something white?

Or something with a little trim along the edge?

My thought was to also put the cross section fabric on a couple of accent pillows on the bed along with this fabric.

I know I'm crazy for losing sleep over it, but I'm new to mixing fabrics. I guess the upside to not having the money to spend on decorating is that I don't have to rush on making a decision :-)

Lately...

First and foremost, I am terribly sorry that we have been so lack in posting pictures. It has felt like one thing after another around here. Scott is much better at taking pictures than me, but we ended up selling our better camera. Strike one to getting new pictures of the house. Scott finally took pictures and then strike two happened--my hard drive crashed. I have been too depressed to capture new pictures. I feel a little bit like my world is lost without everything on my computer.

I'll show you a couple of pics to what has been consuming my time. Scott renamed and launched a new website. His company is called "Between Pixels" Check out his site.

Sorry for the sideways pic! Scott will kill me for not adjusting the pictures. Oh well....

My sweet Rory is now 10 months old!

Sinclair turned 3! These girls fill this house with so much joy!
In our house, we have four household rules. Rule number four is "NO WHINING." So enough whining on my part. I will work at posting more frequently. In the meantime,
