Addition is finally framed!
Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 08:00PM The addition is finally framed out. Hopefully it won't be raining inside our house anymore. The shingles should go on within the next week followed by a truck load of brand new windows. It may seem strange but I (scott) think some of the most stressful parts of the renovation have been the windows! Sarah gets sick of me saying "I hope we have enough windows." We will have 23. Which is not many for the size house. That said, most are over 6' tall and over 3' wide which is pretty big for a window. The problem with adding a bunch of windows is that it goes against the original design of the house and it would mean a lot of changes to the outside. I hope it all looks good in the end.
The addition had a big error which is sort of a big plus for us. The ceilings are 2 ft higher which adds finished space to the house. This also added space to finish a nook in the addition that would have other wise just been used as attic crawl space. Overall, we are happy with the desision to put on the addition. We decided to do the addition near the end of the demo. We did not plan on doing it at all! Here are the top 10 reasons we decided to add the addition.
1. It turned our previous living room into a large master bedroom and master bath.
2. It allowed us to have 2 master closets instead of 1.
3. The kitchen and Family room are positioned on the back of the house which allows us to watch the kids playing in the backyard.
4. It allowed us to have a guest bedroom and bathroom upstairs of the addition.
5. It gave us a larger family room.
6. Because we added a family room we will use the old one as a traditional living room.
7. It gave us a finished playroom
8. Have a striaght stair case drop right into the living space (Family room and kitchen). Instead of having a 90 turn.
9. Created a open floor plan.
10. Add some windows.
